Gluten-free, Vegan, Paleo, Non-GMO: The Science Behind Manna Bars & Your Health

If you’re on this page, you probably already know that Manna Bars are whole food vegan, gluten-free, Paleo-friendly, and GMO-free bars.

But do you know why?

Why are Manna Bars vegan?

Many studies have shown that a diet abundant in whole plant-based foods helps mitigate some of America’s most serious health issues including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Plant-based foods are typically low in saturated fat, high in fiber, and packed with antioxidants (source).

The best part? Whether vegan or not, anyone can reap the benefits of including more plant-based nutrients in their diet. That’s why it was important to us to make our bars vegan. The more plants, the merrier!

Why gluten-free?

Gluten has become a buzzword in the past few years, with good reason! There are more people than ever in the U.S. with either celiac’s disease or, more commonly, gluten sensitivity (The Guardian).

But first, what is gluten? It’s simply a type of protein found in cereal grains, particularly wheat, barley, and rye. Gluten can be found lurking in many different types of foods and drinks- think beer, pasta, soup, malt, and even salad dressing (Celiac Disease Foundation). 

What is gluten?

For many people, gluten is no problem! But for those who are sensitive to it, eating gluten can cause digestive issues, mood disorders, brain fog, headaches, skin problems, muscle aches, and other unpleasant symptoms (Gluten Free School).

Why paleo?

Those who follow the Paleo diet believe that we should eat like our ancient ancestors did. Today, this is generally understood to mean eating mainly whole foods including certain animal products, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and added fats such as avocado and coconut oil (Huffington Post).

Notably, this leaves out dairy, heavily processed foods, and grains.

Eating this way is thought to increase fat loss, clear skin, and give you more energy. Whether you follow a paleo diet or not, our key takeaway is to eat less processed foods. We think everyone can agree that whole foods are better for you!

That’s why Manna Bars are created using whole foods, with no dairy, grains, or heavily processed oils. They taste fantastic without them- so we don’t need ‘em!

What’s the deal with GMOs?

Americans are increasingly demanding GMO-free food (Financial Times), and we’re with them!

In fact, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients, citing animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility (The Institute for Responsible Technology).

We want to be sure that Manna Bars are safe for everyone. If we don’t want our kids eating it, then you won’t find it in our bars!

It’s important to us that Manna bars be accessible to all, because everyone deserves to be a part of a whole-food nutrition movement that allows you to do good and eat well.
